Letter: John Mayall obituary

I first encountered the tremendously exciting, cutting-edge music of John Mayall in a small club in Oxford in 1964. I had never heard of Mayall but the whole experience felt adult as the band played on, deep into the night.

The following year, I saw the champion of the blues at his most intense at the Eel Pie Island venue in Twickenham. The crowd was rocking like crazy: the wooden dance floor was bouncing, as though about to collapse.
